The Bayfield High School Marching Wolverines captured third place Monday in 1A competition of the Colorado Bandmasters Association.
After a preliminary march in the afternoon at Colorado State University-Pueblo, BHS scored 57.75.
"They were honest and looked hard at how they could make their last chance to march even better," Derek Smith, the BHS band director, wrote on his facebook page. "Your band geared up, buckled down, focused, identified strengths and weaknesses, and addressed them head on."
After their final score from Monday evening, the Wolverines had a final score of 59 and third place against Estes Park, who took first, and Monte Vista, the second-place team.
This year's routine of "Sportsball" was a hit with the audience, Smith noted.
"Thank you to our staff, Assistant Director Rachel Phelps , Color Guard Coach Sharon Hunter and Tessa Harrmann, and Visual Designer Joe Collard," Smith wrote. "You made this show work, despite the ridiculous concept. And a special thank you to the Bayfield Association for the Advancement of Music and Jenna Stumpf and the countless parent volunteers who allowed me to focus on music and students, not trip logistics. Finally, thank you to the administration and staff of Bayfield High School."
The band will perform their routine for the final time this season at Friday's 2A football playoff game at Wolverine Country Stadium. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
