Bayfield High School Marching Wolverines will take the field at Colorado State University-Pueblo at 1:30 p.m. Monday for state competition.
The marching band took first at the Colorado Bandmasters Association regional competition on Oct. 18 with a score of 53.2.
Estes Park is currently in first place in the state with a score of 57, with Bayfield now ranked second overall.
On Friday morning, band members were surprised as all of the student body came to watch their final rehearsal inside Wolverine Country Stadium.
The Marching Wolverines have qualified for state 1A competition for the past 10 years, said Jeff Meisner, a math teacher at BHS who also announces the school's football games.
The program this year is called "Sportsball," which features basketball, football and soccer players who also play in the band.
"It is great how all the coaches work together with these boys so they can do what they love," said Jenna Stumpf of the Bayfield Association for the Advancement of Music, which promotes band and music at BHS. "We hope to have football players, soccer players, all BHS students and the whole community come out on Sunday to the roundabout to cheer the Marching Wolverines on to State."
Buses are scheduled to leave at 1 p.m. Sunday.
