Maria's Bookshop in Durango celebrates 30 years of independent bookselling this week. Special offers and events will include:

Today's events includes "30 Years of Favorites", an extensive list of bestsellers at a 20-percent discount.

. 30th anniversary commemorative mugs will be given free all week with a $30 purchase

. Past and current employees with an artistic talent will have their work displayed within the store

. Today is a sidewalk celebration in front of the store. Refreshments will be served and free books from a special wide and varied selection will be given away with all purchases.

In May of 1998, the current owners, wife-and-husband team Andrea Avantaggio and Peter Schertz, purchased Maria's Bookshop. Avantaggio has worked at the bookshop since 1992.
