Mark Walser will make progress on LPEA

Mark Walser is running for the La Plata Electrical Association Board of Directors, District 2.

I live in Hesperus and am concerned with the restrictions placed on us by our energy provider, Tri-State. I have rancher neighbors who would like to supplement their income by placing solar arrays on their land to provide electricity to our grid.

LPEA’s contract lasts until 2050 and forces us to buy 95% of our electricity from Tri-State, drastically restricting the amount that we can produce locally. We could be farming our own energy from the sun, supporting our local economy, reducing energy costs and providing opportunities for La Plata County ranchers.

Mark supports the LPEA board’s efforts to renegotiate the contract with Tri-State. His opponent, the District 2 incumbent, was the only board member to vote against even looking into the potential savings of renegotiation.

We need new leadership that understands the advantages of supporting our local economy and keeping our electricity costs down.

The deadline to return ballots is June 16. Mail yours in now, and vote for Mark Walser.
