Marsha Porter-Norton announced back in February that she is running for La Plata County commissioner in 2020.
We’ve been friends and colleagues for more than 20 years. Many years ago, Marsha directed a regional nonprofit, Operation Healthy Communities. Through OHC, we worked on the Healthy Communities Index that measured the health of our regional counties, including health care access, safety, economies, social/youth and families, education and more. This information is used for nonprofit grant-writing, public policy-making and overall community education about the broad health of our region. Region 9 Economic Development District now coordinates the index.
Marsha and I, along with many others, worked on two Healthy Community Summits in the early 2000s. From a Summit in 2001, she co-founded the Community Health Action Coalition). Through my work with CHAC, I have seen her in action to bring people together and get successful results. Her strengths include listening to diverse opinions and helping find solutions together about complicated challenges. Her skills, experience and compassion qualify her to be an excellent commissioner for all of us.
Although the commission race isn’t until 2020, we would be fortunate to have Marsha representing us. Find out more at www.marshaporternorton.com.
