Former Durango Demon Mason Rowland continues to show she’s one of the best freshmen in Division II basketball. The former three-sport star at Durango High School scored a career-high 30 points on Friday for Colorado Mesa before being awarded the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Rowland shot 9-16 from the field, 1-3 from the 3-point line and 11-13 from the free-throw line off the bench in Colorado Mesa’s 74-59 win over CSU Pueblo on Friday night.
The freshman guard then continued her strong play with 15 points on 4-5 shooting from the field, 2-2 from 3-point range and 5-6 from the free-throw line in Colorado Mesa’s 70-34 win against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday night.
In both games over the weekend, she shot 62% from the field and 84% from the free-throw line. Rowland drew 14 fouls and committed zero.
Colorado Mesa is 11-3 overall and 5-2 in RMAC conference play with Rowland averaging 15.7 points per game which is second-best on the team along with 4.9 rebounds per game.
