Matt Nimetz, Chapman Hill champion

In this bleak, cold and dry winter, there is reason to rejoice. The skiers of Durango’s Chapman Hill have two brand new surface lifts to ferry them up the cold northern slopes of the college mesa.

There is one person who deserves recognition for this success – Matt Nimetz.

When the city of Durango advertised for a general contractor to manage the removal of the old lifts and the installation of the new lifts, not one single contractor applied.

Nimetz, the operations supervisor of Chapman Hill Ice and Ski, took the contracting role himself and completed the project on time, on budget and did much of the physical labor himself.

I applaud Nimetz for his leadership, gusto and kindness. Thank you for making a bright spot for all of our skiing kiddos in an otherwise dismal and dirt-dominated winter.
