Tuesdays, 2 p.m.: Baby Storytime. A lapsit storytime for infants-18 months. Interactive fun with music, stories, fingerplays, counting rhymes and playtime. Babies should bring their parents or caregivers to join in the fun.

Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.: Toddler Storytime. Stories, songs, rhymes and other activities for children ages 2-3. Storytime lasts about 30 minutes with a craft after.

Fridays, 10:30 a.m.: Preschool Storytime. Stories, songs, rhyme and other activities perfect for children ages 3-5.

Saturdays, 8:30 a.m.: Demonstration Garden Tour with Docent. Weather permitting, there will be a docent on duty every Saturday at the gardens, located right off the river trail directly behind the library.

May 3, 3:30 p.m.: STEAM Lab: Lego Club. Build, explore, create and problem-solve – fun STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) based activities. This week: Build with the library’s Lego collection.

May, 7 11:45 a.m.: Great Decisions “Cyber Conflicts and Geopolitics.” Great Decisions is co-sponsored by The League of Women Voters of La Plata County, The Durango Branch of the American Association of University Women and The Durango Public Library.

May 8, 10:30 a.m.: Fired Up Stories. Preschool children and families join firefighters and EMTs from the Durango Fire and Rescue Authority for stories and safety tips. Storytime lasts about 45 minutes.

May 8, 4 p.m.: T(w)een Time: DIY Travel Journals. Journals with pockets, journals with fold-out pages, the possibilities are endless. Make a handmade journal perfect for writing down summer memories and holding keepsakes.

May, 8 6 p.m.: Durango Diaries Season 3: Group Organizations. Members of local groups share their passions. From pickleball fan Daryl Hinderer to railroad fan Scott Gibbs and the Society for Creative Anachronism member Gloria Macht, learn about local groups and how to get involved.

May, 9 8 a.m.: Starting Your Own Business Seminar. A 5-hour seminar about various aspects of starting a business, including: registration issues, legal structure, business planning process, financing a business, etc. Speakers: Mary Shepherd, Jack Llewellyn, Donna Arment, Paul Broderick, Coelene O’Kane, John Lopez, Lindsey Nicholson, Ben Frihauf and Brian Rose. May 9, 6:30 p.m.: Mountain Lions Among Us. Join local wildlife conservationist David Neils for a deep dive on the habits and habitat of mountain lions in Colorado. Learn what the predators tell us about the wild spaces that surround us and how to recreate and live successfully in the places they call home.

May 10, 11 a.m.: River Walk Book Talk. Join library staff and other avid readers to discuss current reads while strolling along the river trail. The River Walk Book Talk is a nontraditional book club, meaning there is no assigned book or theme. Meet library staff outside the main entrance at 11 a.m. Strollers and pets on leashes welcome.

May 22, 6 p.m.: Durango Diaries Season 3: Veterans. Veterans of five wars (Wayne McGee, World War II; Eric Greene, Korea; Stan Crapo, Vietnam; Shoshona Burrows, Desert Storm; and Nathaniel Burford, Iraq/Afghanistan) will share stories from their service.

Special Note: The Pine River Library Summer Reading Program is expanding to new universes this year – it’s now a S.T.R.E.A.M. (Summer Technology Reading Engineering Arts Math) program. This year, the library will host events Monday through Saturday – every day the library is open. Everything will blast off with a kickoff party in the library park from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 31, complete with free balloon animals from Ruby Balloon and a free barbecue dinner for all. We’ve got a great lineup – everything from astronaut training, actual rocket science, a family field day of outdoor games in the park, robotics, forensics, a self-defense class and the showing of the throwback ’90s space classics “Space Jam” and “Fifth Element.” The six-week program will end with a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing on July 20.

Mondays and Fridays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Groove and Grow. Music, finger-plays, games and more for infants and toddlers and their caregivers.

Mondays, 3:30-5 p.m.: Gamer Club: Celebrate all forms of gaming, table-top and electronic, all ages.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.: Crazy 8s Math Club. Crazy 8s is a recreational after-school math club that helps kids enjoy the math behind their favorite activities.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.: Code Club. Learn computer programming skills through a series of tutorials and projects. Kids ages 8-18 can work toward building websites, video games, phone apps, animations and more, all the while learning how to become better problem-solvers and critical thinkers.

Wednesdays, 10:30 to 11 a.m.: Little Readers Storytime. Stories, songs, activities and crafts for infants through preschoolers, but all ages welcome.

Thursday and Fridays, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.: Teen Time. After-school fun and snacks.

Mondays, 9 to 10 a.m: Yogalates. A combo of yoga and Pilates principles.

Mondays, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Open Art Group. Paint with local artist Susan Brightman. The library will offer a weekly opportunity to paint in a group setting. Bring that painting you’ve been working on or start afresh. It’s always wonderful to get feedback from others.

Tuesdays, 9 to 10:15 a.m.: Yoga for All. With a focus on proper alignment and modifications, but all levels welcome.

Thursdays, 8 to 9:15 a.m.: Yoga Flow. Postures put together to create yoga sequences.

If you are interested in signing up for these classes, join as a walk-in. Classes are $6 for individual classes, or punch passes are available for a discount.

May 1, 6 p.m.: Building Your Garden Soil. Get some helpful tips on how to create a thriving soil in an otherwise challenging environment. With Darrin Parameter, county director and horticulture agent for the La Plata County CSU Extension Office.

May 2, 7 p.m.: Community Acoustic Music Jam. An acoustic music jam open to all levels and ages. Bring a song or two to lead or just play along. The first Thursday of each month.

May 3, 6 p.m.: Family First Friday: Game Night. There will be card games, board games and family games of all kinds. Play old favorites and learn new ones, including Candy Land, Exploding Kittens, Sushi GO!, Chutes & Ladders, Yahtzee, Connect Four and more. Feel free to bring your own favorites with you to share or play one of the library’s games.

May 6, 6 p.m.: Classic Movie Monday: “-30-” (1959).

May 8, 10:30 a.m.: Death Cafe: A Death Cafe is a time and place where people come to share food, drink tea or coffee, and discuss death openly and honestly. The aim is to increase awareness about death in order to help people make the most of their (finite) lives.

May 8, 2 p.m.: BookMarks Book Club: “Moloka’i” by Alan Brennert

May 9, 5:45 p.m.: Living Room Conversations: Political Models: Join us for a facilitated discussion using the “Living Room Conversation” model.

May 10, 6 p.m.: Mister Rogers’ 21st Century Legacy: Community screening of the 2018 film “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” followed by an all-ages facilitated conversation about what we can learn from Mister Rogers when it comes to the skills we and our children need to successfully navigate in a 21st century world.

May 13, 10:30 a.m.: Spanish Conversation Hour: Join us for an hour of conversation en Español. Practice Spanish in an informal setting. All ages and language levels welcome.

May 13, 6 p.m.: Classic Movie Monday: “Sweet Smell of Success” (1957).

May 15, 6 p.m.: Wire Woven Jewelry Making: Join local jeweler Denise Galley for an introductory class on wire wrapping. This 90-minute class will introduce you to the world of wire weaving, and you’ll craft a pair of wire and bead earrings. There is a $15 materials fee for the class. Sundays 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: ICL Open Maker Space and Idea Lab. Use equipment to make slide images digital and VHS tape to digital. Plus, use a 3D printer, information about patents and more.

Tuesdays, 1 p.m.: Knitters. Knitters work on projects, socialize and share ideas. Open to all.

Tuesdays in April, 5:30 p.m.: Growing Readers Together. Are you or do you know a child care provider for family, friends or neighbors? ICL has received a grant called Growing Readers Together that allows us to offer five free classes for child care providers that include training and take-home materials and supplies. Fridays, 10 a.m. through May 17: (fourth and fifth grades) We are excited to collaborate with The PowerHouse Science Center and Montezuma School to Farm Project to offer Science Friday classes at the library. All classes will be taught at the Mancos Public Library.

Fridays, 1 p.m. through May 24: Outdoor Adventures. (Kids 9-13 years old). Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. Jenni is once again heading up our Outdoor Adventures program. Program offers kids the opportunity to explore, build, hike, create and play outdoors.

First and Third Fridays, 1 p.m., Lego Robotics Lab. The lab is open to kids 9-14 and is capped at nine. Registration is required. Parents and guardians may enroll a child at any time until the lab is full. Permission is required. Forms are available at the circulation desk.
