Mayor’s outreach efforts, utility fall short

A couple of months ago the Herald announced that the mayor would host an opportunity to discuss issues with Mayor Dick White at a local coffee shop.

I attended and discussed the archaic city water policies with the mayor. He made some notes, took down my contact information and I never heard from him. Follow up emails have gone unanswered.

I have had my water turned off several times by the city for nonpayment costing me great inconvenience, late fees and thousands of dollars in pump replacements. The city does not follow any of the notice or payment procedures followed by other utilities. The water bill is not available online, invoicing is void of prior payments and receipt data, billing arrives a week after it is dated, the payment office is in Nebraska and so on.

Late notices, if you get one, come by mail, also a week after dating, appearing much like bulk mail, announcing that your services will be cut off in 10 days for non-payment.

I have returned from two out of country trips to find my water turned off and booster pump fried (I have 15 pounds of pressure). I was home the last time it was turned off and no notice or even a knock on the door!

There isn’t really a water department and policies are created at will. City finance personnel seem to enjoy their ability to impose their gestapo tactics at-will and offer no remorse for their unpredictable policies.
