MCHS moves down in class

Panthers’ football and boys soccer each will drop a classification
Cordell Ridings and the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers are being tackled down a class in football and soccer by the Colorado High School Activities Association. The Panthers’ football program will play Class 2A next season, and the boys soccer program – still a member of the Southwestern League – will play Class 3A next season.

Two Montezuma-Cortez High School athletic programs will move down in classifications, the Colorado High School Activities Association announced Wednesday.

The Panthers’ football team will go from Class 3A to Class 2A, and the boys soccer program will move from Class 4A to Class 3A, starting in the 2014 season.

Montezuma-Cortez will stay in the Southwestern League for all sports except football.

Football alignment will be finalized later this month.

The Panthers’ football team finished the 2013 season 3-7 in the 3A Western Slope league, while the boys soccer team went 1-14 and 0-10 in the SWL.

Alignment changes are a result of CHSAA’s Classification and League Organizing Committee meeting and could change depending on January’s legislative council meeting.
