Like our old and beloved President Ronald Reagan once said, “Trust, but verify.” I am going to do that based on your editorial (Herald, Sept. 11) laying out your policy on printing letters to the editor from supporters of both sides of our local elections.
For the moment, I am going to trust you will do so in the best interest of fair and impartial journalism that truly informs the readers. Seeing proof of that, I may even start my company’s newspaper advertising again.
It has certainly appeared in the recent past that your editorial page has not given fair representation to two of the candidates and the principles they stand for. Your commitment to the readers to present both sides will give our voters very good insight into who these two candidates are and what they stand for.
Lyle McKnight is a native of La Plata County and has a long history of commitment and service to this community. His desire to run for La Plata County commissioner is driven by his commitment to the community and to work toward solutions to improve the quality of life here in La Plata County and the opportunities for all.
His experience as a rancher and successful business owner benefits all of us in ways that we need now more than ever.
He is committed to working toward less government regulations and inefficiencies while working with businesses to create jobs, opportunities and a better quality of life for all of us.
His humble approach to serving in the capacity of an elected official is refreshing.
Kayla Patterson is just plain a breath of fresh air for all of us. Her beliefs are similar to Mr. McKnight’s in that she believes in less government interference while providing businesses the opportunities to thrive and hopefully profit from the fruits of hard work.
Her youthful exuberance is contagious and her wisdom is beyond her age. She understands the issues, especially the challenges of the younger generation.
To get to know both candidates is to realize there is hope for the future.
