I’m supporting Barbara McLachlan for state representative in House District 59 which includes Archuleta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, La Plata, Ouray and San Juan counties.
McLachlan was a teacher at Durango High School for 20 years and excelled at motivating all students, from the highly-motivated to the uninspired. She has real-world experience in working with a diverse student population, parents (I was one), administrators and the community.
Colorado currently ranks 47th among states in per-pupil funding and McLachlan will work hard to bring us out of this lowly position. I trust her on educational issues.
McLachlan is a fourth-generation Coloradoan who understands the importance of clean air and water, and supports investments in wind and solar energy.
She is a staunch defender of public lands, understands their importance to the tourist industry in Colorado and opposes their transfer or sale to state governments or private interests. She knows how sacred these public lands are to those of us who live here, and those who visit. I trust McLachlan to safeguard our public lands.
I’ve seen how hard McLachlan works, and I know she will be a passionate and highly effective state representative for all of us.
