Amy Huff, a longtime Durango resident and water lawyer, has been working as Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District Rep. Jeff Hurd’s southwest regional director since July.

From Hurd’s regional office in the West Building on East Second Avenue, residents can schedule appointments to speak with Huff by phone or drop in during office hours.

The position’s main function, Huff said, is to provide an impartial ear to listen to the concerns, feedback and comments of the 3rd Congressional District’s constituents and communicate them to the congressman and his team. Huff does not lobby on behalf of Hurd and is not personally involved with the campaign or his work in Congress.

In addition to her regional director role, Huff works as a water lawyer with her law office, Colorado Water and Land LLC, focusing on water rights and property. She is also the treasurer and secretary of the Southwest Colorado Water Conservation District, according to her bio on the organization’s website.

Huff studied anthropology at the University of Boulder, then earned her law degree from the University of Denver. Before she began working in law in 2003, Huff taught elementary school in Durango and Mancos.

“She worked in the legal division of Denver Water while attending law school and was awarded a judicial clerkship with Honorable Judge Klein in Water Division No. 1 upon graduation,” her bio said. “Amy had the privilege of practicing law at Carlson, Hammond and Paddock, LLC, before she returned to Durango in 2007.”

To schedule a time to speak with Huff at Hurd’s southwest regional office or to leave a comment for the congressman, call (970) 317-6167.
