Mercy gets ‘A’ for protecting its patients

Mercy Regional Medical Center was recently awarded an “A” for hospital safety by an independent industry group.

The Leapfrog Group awarded scores based on 28 measures of patient safety that examined how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections.

The group graded about 40 hospitals in Colorado and about 15 of them received an A grade. Nationwide, about 31 percent of the hospitals analyzed received an A grade.

“Patient safety needs to be a 24-7 priority for hospitals, as errors and infections are all too common and often are deadly,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group in a statement.

The of the lowest ranking hospital in the state was Centura Health’s St. Thomas More Hospital.

It received the only “D” in the state.
