For the third consecutive year, Mercy Regional Medical Center was recognized as one of "100 Great Community Hospitals" by Becker's Hospital Review. Mercy, which is part of the Centura Health network, was one of only four Colorado hospitals that were recognized on the 2018 Becker's list.
According to Becker's, the hospitals are recognized for clinical quality, operational excellence, and economic impact on surrounding areas.
The Becker's editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on several outside rankings and ratings organizations, including IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals; iVantage Health Analytics and The Chartis Center for Rural Health's Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals; CareChex ratings; Leapfrog Group patient safety grades; Healthgrades quality awards; and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) star ratings, among other considerations.
Last May, Mercy received for the 10th consecutive year the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award, and in January, Mercy was one of seven hospitals in Colorado and the only hospital in the Four Corners region to receive from CMS a five-star rating for overall hospital quality. It was Mercy's third consecutive five-star rating from CMS.
In February, The Chartis Center for Rural Health named Mercy a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital.
Becker's is a publisher of business and legal news in the health care industry and has published a version of its list annually since 2011. This is the eighth year the list has included 100 hospitals. For the purposes of this list, Becker's defines a community hospital as one with fewer than 550 beds.
