Two convincing wins to start the season vaulted the Fort Lewis College men’s basketball team into the first National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Coaches Poll.
The Skyhawks were ranked 20th in the first weekly poll released Tuesday.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association also released its poll, and the FLC women’s basketball team received nine votes but finished outside the top 25.
The Metro State men’s team received the season’s first No. 1 ranking after defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville and West Texas A&M to start the season.
The Roadrunners received 14 of a possible 16 first-place votes.
No. 2 West Liberty received the others.
Metro State lost to Division I Rhode Island 66-63 in the first game of the NIT Season Tip-Off, but the exhibition loss doesn’t affect their record.
Division II defending champion Drury was ranked fourth.
Colorado School of Mines received votes in the poll but was not ranked in the top 25.
