As a past Durango School District 9-R board president, I urge you to vote for Cathy Mewmaw.
Cathy is the only candidate who has knowledge based on her recent teaching experience in 9-R and Illinois, who understands how decisions made by the board affect the “boots-on-the-ground” people. She is also a strong candidate not affiliated with a political party. Her voice is her own. As an independent candidate she will hold herself accountable to you, the electorate, not any political party or biased coalition.
Cathy Mewmaw has seen firsthand how board decisions and actions affect students’ academic, social and emotional success. She understands that the board is the “buck stops here” entity. Cathy will use the board’s power to direct the superintendent in her work.
Cathy Mewmaw will hear and honor the voices of all students, parents and community members to make the critical decisions that affect the educational welfare of our students.
Don’t be fooled! While it appears that there are seven candidates for the school board there are only three: 1. Cathy Mewmaw (the unencumbered voice), 2. the Building Durango’s Future cohort (three candidates with one voice) and 3. the recently labeled progressives (variations on a similar voice). Let’s break up the coalitions and get a smart, independent, experienced teacher and mother who is not connected to any political party or tied to a group, who will listen, think and make smart decisions.
(Vote: Cathy Mewmaw, Rick Petersen and Andrea Parmenter.)
