A team comprised of Bayfield Middle School boys competed in a Colorado Springs basketball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 20 and went 3-0 in the seventh-eighth grade division. Local boys Hayden Farmer, Keyon Prior, Turner Kennedy, Chance O'Connell, Matt McSweeney, and Keegan Owens played on the team.
They played their first game Saturday morning against the Team Chrome 7th grade club team and won 49-22. Kennedy led the way with 16 points with Farmer chipping in 11, and Keyon Prior adding 10 and seven steals. Keegan Owens led the team in rebounds with 11.
Early in the afternoon, the boys played the Team Rise club team. The game was close, with Bayfield leading only 30-27 in the second half, before a short jumper by Turner Kennedy and a three pointer by Keyon Prior pushed the lead to eight which eventually bloomed to double figures. The final score was 51-29, with Keyon Prior topping the scoring chart with 30 points and six steals. Turner Kennedy was next in the scoring column with 11 points, while Hayden Farmer added eight points and 10 rebounds with three blocks.
The last game was against the Lancers' club team at 8 p.m. The Lancers jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead before Bayfield was able to get a quick score by Keyon Prior to stop the short run by the Lancers. Bayfield took a 21-10 lead at halftime and Farmer hit two quick three-pointers in the second half to extend the lead and put the game away.
Bayfield won the contest 40-18. Prior led the team in scoring again with 14 points and six steals. Farmer was next with 13 points and Turner Kennedy added 10 points and five steals. Farmer and McSweeney led in rebounds with eight apiece.
