Middles power BHS volleyball to victory

Wolverines sweep Mean Moose in their IML opener at Alamosa

The Bayfield High School volleyball team swept all four Intermountain League teams at the preleague tournament earlier this month.

That trend continued in the Wolverines’ official IML opener Saturday at Alamosa, where they won 3-0 in 25-16, 25-21, 25-17.

BHS middle attackers Kirstie Hillyer and Tessa Powell had 13 and nine kills, respectively.

“Tessa has been concentrating on effective footwork and net decisions, and her work is beginning to transfer into competition,” BHS head coach Terene Foutz said in an email to The Durango Herald on Saturday.

Suzie Rhodes had 31 assists, and Maddi Foutz collected 13 digs and eight service aces.

BHS will continue its IML schedule against Pagosa Springs at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
