Miller adds another state cut for Durango swimming

Ben Miller added a fourth individual state cut for the Durango High School boys swim team Friday in Montrose.

He qualified in the 100-yard freestyle, winning the race in 53.62 seconds. DHS lost the dual meet 62-37 to the Indians.

“They had us, but it wasn’t by much,” DHS head coach Tom Joyner said.

Tommy Pannell also picked up a win for the Demons in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.56.

Miller finished first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.25, with Pannell right behind him in 2:02.09.

Ben Clark was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.53.

“The team as a whole is standing out,” Joyner said. “They’ve been working hard for the past couple weeks. Just about everybody is dropping time.”

DHS will stay north of Red Mountain Pass on Saturday, competing in a four-team meet in Grand Junction.

“It’s an invitational, so we’re going to have our work cut out for us,” Joyner said.
