Miller Middle School briefly evacuated

Miller Middle School was evacuated for about 20 minutes Friday morning when smoke from a laundry vent set off a fire alarm.

There was no fire and everyone was safe, according to an alert issued by Durango School District 9-R.

“There was a smell of smoke coming from the vent in the laundry area, but there was no fire,” the alert said. “The fire department quickly responded and investigated the situation. After their thorough scan, we were given the ‘all clear’ to re-enter the building.”

The evacuation occurred at 10:16 a.m., and students were allowed to re-enter at 10:37 a.m.
