Miller principal leaving post

Health cited as reason for departure

Miller Middle School Principal Tam Smith is leaving his post for health reasons.

“Tam has provided some solid leadership at Miller over the past 5 years, seeing the school through a myriad of changes,” Superintendent Dan Snowberger said in a statement. We appreciate his dedication to the school and the district.”

Snowberger said Durango School District 9-R would like to have Smith, who saw the school through periods of rapid growth, return in full capacity in another role.

District spokeswoman Julie Popp said Smith will remain on the job until the end of the school year.

“He’s not at a point that he can’t work,” Popp said.

Cito Nuhn, a former Miller Middle School teacher and currently assistant principal at Durango High School, will replace Smith.

The district will begin a search to replace Nuhn at DHS starting in the fall. Information about the position will be posted on the district website, http://durangoschools.org, next week.
