Rep. Scott Tipton is in the pocket of the National Rifle Association, which named him one of their “Young Guns” and gave him an “A” rating for his votes to obstruct commonsense gun reforms that protect our communities.
Rep. Tipton co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Act of 2017 to allow anyone able to carry a concealed weapon in a state with little or no regulations to carry it legally nationwide in contravention of other states’ gun-safety laws.
He also voted for bills keeping Washington, D.C., from implementing a firearms registry, loosening restrictions on interstate gun purchases, and opposing expanded background checks and a federal gun database to make it easier to trace guns and harder for criminals and terrorists to purchase guns. None of these commonsense reforms would impinge on the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
Because the NRA essentially buys our political representatives to support its “guns everywhere” policies and opposes every form of commonsense gun-safety legislation, our country’s gun violence has become even worse in the past decade. Readers can read the facts themselves and see how easily implemented safety measures can reduce the problem by going to Everytown.org, ViolencePolicy.org or #MarchForOurLives.
I support Diane Mitsch Bush, who has been named a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate. For more information, go to MomsDemandAction.org to join our movement to elect officials who want to protect our community by enacting commonsense gun legislation like Red Flag laws and expanded background checks for all gun sales.
