Mobile home burns in northwest Durango

Tenant says four cats killed in blaze
Firefighters and police responded to a mobile home fire Friday night at 2400 Arroyo Drive in northwest Durango. Four cats reportedly died in the blaze.

Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire Friday night in northwest Durango.

The home was occupied by Stacy Cobb; her two children, a girl, age 16, and a boy, age 5; a dog; and four cats. All four cats died in the fire, Cobb said in an interview Friday night.

“We’ve had electrical problems since we moved into this place,” she said.

The fire was reported about 9:20 p.m. in the 2400 block of Arroyo Drive.

Cobb and her son were uninjured; her daughter was being evaluated for smoke inhalation, she said.

Bill Reynolds, who identified himself as a landlord, said the mobile home is likely a total loss.

Cobb said her daughter walked into her bedroom and yelled, “Mom, mom, there’s a fire in my room.”

The fire appeared to have started in the closet of the room, she said.

The family has lived in the home since February.
