Mock crash drill planned Friday near Bayfield

Upper Pine River Fire Protection District will conduct a multi-casualty drill Friday at an intersection two miles south of Bayfield.

The drill will occur from 9 a.m. to noon at County Road 520 and County Road 516.

The training exercise will simulate a crash involving two vehicles and six to eight patients. The drill will allow firefighters and medics to practice and evaluate the use of ambulance resources for a crash involving multiple victims, Bruce Evans, chief of the Upper Pine Fire Protection District, said in a news release.

“It is an opportunity for local fire crews to practice their triage skills and extrication skills,” he said.

The drill is being funded by the Southwest Regional Trauma Advisory Committee.

Other agencies participating include Los Pinos Fire, Durango Fire, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and Bayfield Marshal’s Office.
