Montezuma County dog shot after killing neighbor’s goats

A white husky killed three goats and left three others so injured they had to be put down before the owner of the goats was forced to kill the dog last week in Montezuma County.

The dogs owner, Cody Lopez, has agreed to pay for his dog’s attacks, about $880 total. Thomas Comisky, who owns the goats, agreed that he wouldn’t press charges.

Comisky told Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office Deputy John Haynes that he found his neighbor’s dog attacking his goats Thursday morning. He told Haynes he was forced to shoot the dog after he couldn’t scare it off. Two kid goats and one adult were killed, and Comisky said he would have to put down three other goats because of their severe injuries.

Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin said his office would likely charge Lopez with ownership of a dangerous dog in order to ensure that Comisky is reimbursed for his loss.

“We just want people to be responsible pet owners, take care of their dogs, and not let them run loose,” Nowlin said.
