Suspect faces second-degree assault among other felony charges

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reported a high-risk cell extraction and extradition of 39-year-old Cameron White with the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 7, according to a Facebook post published Monday.

White, reportedly uncooperative during a previous transport attempt, was wanted on a felony warrant in El Paso County.

He was arrested by Cortez police on Oct. 1 and held in the Montezuma County Detention Center on a separate charge. He faces multiple felony charges in El Paso County, including second-degree assault, crimes against an at-risk person, and first-degree criminal trespass.

“I want to thank Sheriff Nowlin and his team for their assistance, as well as our Special Response Team members for their collaborative work in ensuring justice for victims across Colorado,” El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal said in the post.

On Oct. 7, White was transported from his cell in Montezuma County Detention Center without incident and received by El Paso County’s Special Response Team, then taken to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center in Colorado Springs.

“Extraditions are an important process in holding criminals accountable for their actions and restoring justice for victims,” said Roybal. “Our SRT members once again demonstrated professionalism and expertise in handling what could have been a dangerous situation with precision and care.”

White is scheduled for an Oct. 22 appearance in El Paso County Court.
