I want to remind everyone that the La Plata Electric Association’s annual election for board of director candidates is rapidly approaching. We all need to be studying the issues so when the candidate pool is announced we will be prepared to ask the right questions in order to select the right board.
LPEA is facing some critical issues. We are losing some senior management. We are in a battle with Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, our wholesale power provider, over the question of appropriate rate structures. We are striving to establish the right balance with our power sources. We will be hiring a new CEO.
With these and other issues in mind, I am pleased that Davin Montoya has agreed to run for the board. LPEA will need his experienced leadership to help us work through the issues we face. With the retirement of senior management, his history with the company will provide us with the proper perspective as we select a new CEO.
As the former LPEA representative to the Tri-State board, he has established relationships and has the respect of the board and the Tri-State staff. He already is working with them to ease the tension created by our battle over rates.
His past successes include working with Tri-State to provide green-power blocks and establishing the time-of-use rates to encourage efficient use of electricity. He was instrumental in the creation of Fast Track, our telecommunication company, which has brought broadband to our community.
He truly cares about all LPEA members and their concerns and the future success of our local rural electric company. He has the demonstrated ability to see the broad picture, and I truly believe he can be the glue that will hold us all together as we move into the future.
