Most public offices closed for holiday

Many city, county and state offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

All city administrative offices in Durango will be closed in recognition of the holiday. These include: City Hall, River City Hall, the police department station and substation, Transit Center, Durango-La Plata County Airport, Greenmount Cemetery and the Parks & Recreation administrative offices.

The Mason Center, Chapman Hill and all branches of the public library also will be closed.

Durango Community Recreation Center will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Aquatics area at the rec center will close at 1:30 p.m.

All commercial trash and recycling pickup will occur as scheduled with all drop-off locations open. The recycling center will be closed.

The parking window at the Transit Center will be closed, but the transit and trolley will continue to run regular schedules. There will be no transit service to Mercy Regional Medical Center, and Route 6 will run from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Parking meters will be free downtown for the holiday.

La Plata County offices also will be closed in observance of the holiday.

The state offices that will be closed include: driver’s license offices, the Department of Public Health and Environment’s vital records office and executive branch departments.

State troopers will be patrolling the highways, and Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be working as necessary.

Coloroado’s state parks and visitor centers will be open and staffed, but all Colorado Parks and Wildlife administrative offices will be closed.

For all public buildings statewide, Gov. John Hickenlooper requested that flags be lowered to half-staff Monday. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to noon.
