This Sunday afternoon, Nov. 13, my wife and I were enjoying a quiet hike on the designated hikers trails in Saul's Creek.
It was lovely to stand in the stillness, enjoy the afternoon sun striking the trees, and the quiet beauty.
As we were completing the loop and coming down the steep hill close to the parking area I first heard, then saw about five or six dirt motorcycles coming down the road and then to my surprise up the trail. The bikes were mostly green and white and all the cyclists had helmets and face masks. In the interest of safety, we stepped to the side to let the riders climb the hill. One rather small person came flying by us. One of the larger people signaled for us to walk down before the rest of them rode up the hill. The experience was disturbing in the wake of our peaceful walk. We walked down and to the parking lot. At the trailhead is a sign which reads "no vehicles, no motors."
Our rights to enjoy one of the very few pedestrian-only trails in the Bayfield area were violated by these people.
I don't know if there were any adults in the group, but I do know that the younger people are learning it's OK to break rules for their own pleasure. Their rights do not supersede mine, but that is what happened.
I ask these people and others to consider and respect the rights of others in their actions and obey the rules.
