Mountain Middle School students in Anna Layden’s eighth-grade humanities class will present their mock trial exhibition from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, upstairs at La Plata County Combined Courts, 1060 East Second Ave.
Students will stage a trial of criminal charges being brought against Abraham Lincoln and James H. Carleton for violations during the Navajo Long Walk.
Students have been divided into two groups, and each group will perform its mock trial separately at the same time. Both groups include a total of 59 students, participating as attorneys or key witnesses.
All community members are encouraged to attend and assess the students’ professionalism and ability to demonstrate their learning.
