Mountain Studies Institute will host a 416 Fire recovery celebration for the community from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.
Mayor Melissa Youssef will act as Master of Ceremonies of the celebration, and it will feature Rob Powell as the guest speaker.
Powell was the Type 1 Section Chief assigned to Durango for the 416 Fire, but is better known for the daily operational updates he gave on Facebook. He will be recognized by the mayor along with local leaders who were instrumental in the 416 Fire fight. Mountain Studies will also provide an update about the recovery effort of the forest and river.
All proceeds raised will go to the ongoing monitoring and restoration efforts of the forest and watershed impacted by the 416 Fire.
