Mountain Studies Institute will host the Growth Through Fire: Hermosa Resiliency Celebration from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Lower Hermosa Campground.
The celebration will feature a hike into the burn area to learn about the fire and recovery process and to throw seedballs. Children ages 5 and older may attend the “Wildfire Camp,” where they will move through interactive stations with games and fire lessons.
Register for either session, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Each session will be an hour and 15 minutes. Register online at www.mountainstudies.org.
Participants should bring good hiking shoes, a hat, water, sunscreen, snacks and a face covering, unless they have underlying health conditions which prevent them from wearing one. Social-distancing regulations will be observed.
The seedball hikes and wildfire camps will occur at the same time. Participants may choose either 9:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. Meet at the Lower Hermosa Trailhead near the bathrooms promptly at the start time. The wildfire camps will occur at the trailhead.
