Construction continues on the whitewater park at Smelter Rapid. Workers with Colorado Riverworks have diverted the flow to the east side of the Animas River while they restructure the riverbed on the west side. The in-stream work is expected to be completed by March. Proponents of the city of Durango-sponsored project hope to bring Durango firmly back on the map as a major world-class river-running venue.
