Name-calling unnecessary in columns

I wrote a letter to the Pine River Times about rude name-calling, inaccurate accusations and lack of respect in letters.

The Times also has published a column using abundant ad-hominem blame, insults, and questionable "facts."

What proof does the writer have that all news on the MSN network is fake? Clearly MSN is flawed and not always accurate, however broad brush accusations that all MSN reporting is false is an opinion presented as "fact." The accusation regarding George Soros paying agitators who "burn down houses" is "unsubstantiated" according to the fact checking website Snopes. Perhaps the writer has information they were unable to find, other than items from allnewspipeline or NewsBusters. There is an inclination to believe reports which substantiate our opinion without confirming their accuracy. We are entitled to our opinion but not our own facts.

Calling people "fanatic" and "mindless global sycophants," and "basket of deplorable" is rude. Evidently rudeness is acceptable today. It is standard behavior for some "role models."

Name-calling proves nothing, was used on playgrounds, and should be grown out of. I won't apologize for being true to the values I was brought up with, honesty, politeness, and respect. These values have been discarded by many. The divisions in the country are perpetuated by unwillingness to carefully listen to and understand the perspective of those we disagree with. We are all humans seeking happiness.

Whether I disagree with you or not I will do my best to treat you respectfully. I don't benefit by insulting and alienating people. If you feel you do, you have my sympathy. I will continue to do my best to treat you politely and respectfully regardless of your words and actions.
