State police arrest worker at N.Y. prison
DANNEMORA, N.Y. – A worker at an upstate New York maximum-security prison has been arrested on charges she helped two convicted killers escape, state police said Friday.
Fifty-one-year-old Joyce Mitchell was arrested and will be arraigned on charges of first-degree promoting prison contraband and fourth-degree criminal facilitation, state police said.
Mitchell is accused of befriending inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora and giving them contraband.
Kerry released from hospital in Boston
BOSTON – Secretary of State John Kerry was released from a hospital in his hometown of Boston after having surgery on a broken leg.
Kerry left Massachusetts General Hospital on crutches Friday afternoon. He told reporters he plans to return to Washington sometime next week after spending some recovery time at his home in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Kerry broke his right femur May 31 in a bicycle accident in France when he struck a curb in a parking lot and fell.
