Conn. son charged with killing parents
WESTON, Conn. – The month before his parents disappeared, police say Kyle Navin wrote that he had the “perfect plan” to get “$ for life.”
Then, a few days before they vanished, Navin’s mother confided in a friend that she and her husband planned to cut him out of their will.
Now, the adult son of a trash hauling businessman and a school library aide faces allegations he killed his parents and dumped their bodies in the yard of a vacant home in a well-to-do Connecticut town.
State police said Navin, of Bridgeport, faces two counts of murder and murder with special circumstances in the deaths of his parents, who had been missing since Aug. 4. His girlfriend has also been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and hindering prosecution.
Warship honoring Marine christened
BATH, Maine – First in English, then in Spanish, the mother of a fallen Marine who shielded his comrades from an insurgent’s grenade christened a new Navy destroyer in his honor.
The mother of Sgt. Rafael Peralta asked God to bless the ship named for her son and keep the crew safe before smashing a bottle of Champagne on the ship’s bow Saturday.
The ceremony to christen the future USS Rafael Peralta paid homage to the slain Marine, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service of a country to which he emigrated as a boy.
Peralta, who pulled a grenade against his body to protect his fellow Marines during close combat with insurgents in Fallujah, Iraq, on Nov. 15, 2004, is believed to be the first serviceman born in Mexico to have a naval warship named in his honor.

Ex-lawmakers seek 2nd chance in Mich.
LANSING, Mich. – Two Michigan lawmakers who were booted from office over an extramarital affair and convoluted cover-up scheme are seeking redemption – and their old seats – at the polls.
Tea party leaders Todd Courser, who resigned rather than be expelled, and Cindy Gamrat, who was ousted, will appear on the ballot in Tuesday’s special primary elections, which come less than two months after their Sept. 11 ouster.
The saga began in May, when Courser sent a sexually explicit phony email that said he had been caught having sex with a male prostitute behind a Lansing nightclub.
Courser explained that he thought his tale would make the affair less plausible in case it was revealed by an anonymous extortionist who sent him and Gamrat text messages demanding that he resign.
