Study finds Facebook news source for many
NEW YORK – Most people don’t log on to Facebook to find out the news. But it’s an important news source anyway, even if incidentally, a study released Thursday indicated.
The Pew Research Center found that 47 percent of adults who use Facebook say they get news there, either through links posted by friends or news sources they follow.
Still, given the social media site’s popularity, that represents almost one-third of the country’s adult population.
Only 4 percent of Facebook users described it as the most important way that they get news.
Dallas shooting case going to grand jury
DALLAS – Dallas police say they are seeking a grand jury indictment against an officer who shot a mentally ill man in a disputed incident caught on tape.
A police statement Thursday said Officer Cardan Spencer was fired over the Oct. 14 shooting and his case would be forwarded to a grand jury.
Spencer wrote in a police report that he shot Bobby Gerald Bennett after the man lunged at him with a knife. But video shows Bennett didn’t appear to move toward the officers.
