Retailer Rue 21 plans to close hundreds of locations nationwide and the location at the Durango Mall will be one of them.
Rue 21 sells teen clothes for girls and boys, jewelry, makeup, shoes and other accessories.
The retailer is closing one-third of its stores, or about 400, and plans to focus more on its online business, the Associated Press reported Monday.
“It’s true – we are closing some stores. It was a difficult but necessary decision,” the company said on its website.
Rue 21 hasn’t given a timeline for store closures, the Associated Press reported.
More than 700 stores will remain open in 48 states.
The Rue 21 at the Animas Valley Store in Farmington will remain open. Locations in Albuquerque and Grand Junction will remain open as well, according to the company’s website.
Rue 21’s decision is the latest in a series by large retailers to close locations. Payless, J.C. Penney, Sears and others have announced store closures this year. But none of these retailers have announced plans to close stores in Durango.
