Nature-related book discussions starting at Pine River Library

Pine River Library will host a free series of four monthly reading, viewing, and discussion gatherings called "Pushing the Limits" starting in January. They will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday each month in conjunction with the BookMarks Book Club. Each month has a different nature-related theme. They are:

Jan. 11 - Nature, "Apocalyptic Planet: Field Guide to the Future of the Earth," Craig Childs.

Feb. 8 - Survival, "What is the What," Dave Eggers.

March 8 - Connection, "Thunderstruck," Erik Larson.

April 12- Knowledge, "The Botany of Desire: A Plant's Eye View of the World," Michael Pollin.

The Pine River Library is one of 110 rural public libraries nationwide receiving grants to host the series. It brings together books and video clips featuring authors, scientists, and everyday people who thrive on exploring the natural world. Participants will explore these ideas in group discussions. The over-arching theme is real people, real stories, and real science.

For information call the library at 884-2222, ext. 510.
