Durango local Missy Neagos wrapped up the Rossignol Southwest Nordic Race Series with a victory Saturday at the Pine Needle Langlauf, held at the Durango Nordic Center.

Neagos was the first female to finish the 30K Langlauf, crossing 10th overall, in 2 hours, 7 minutes and 47 seconds. Molly Hummel challenged Neagos and was only one second behind her after the first 7.5K lap. Neagos, however, put almost a minute between her and Hummel during the second of four laps and eventually won the race by a little over 2 minutes. Hummel finished second, and 11th overall, in 2:10:11.

The win helped Neagos finish as the Queen of the Rossignol Southwest Nordic Race Series. Another Durango local, Brett Wilson, earned the title as King of the Rossignol Southwest Series with his performance Saturday and throughout the season.

Wilson finished fifth in the Langlauf, but his consistency throughout the season helped him earn the overall title. The series also included races in Pagosa Springs, Telluride and Chama, New Mexico, and three of the four featured races were scored for each racer.

The king and queen both won a pair of skis that Rossignol donated.

Tad Elliott held off Cully Brown, Brad Neagos, Beckett Ledger and Wilson to win the Langlauf on Saturday. The five skiers finished the first lap within three seconds of one other, with Ledger and Brad Neagos leading by one second in 27:04. Ledger stayed in front with a 27:21 second lap, leading Brown and Brad Neagos by one second, Elliott by two and Wilson by six.

Ledger then had the fastest third lap, 26:41, to take a 19-second lead over Neagos and Elliott while crossing 22 seconds faster than Brown.

On the fourth lap, however, Elliott skied by far the fastest split of the entire race, 24:38, to fly by the competition and finish first.

Elliott’s winning time was 1:46:05. Brown recorded the second-fastest lap of the day on his final lap, a 25:14, to place second in 1:46:42. Brad Neagos finished third in 1:47:16 while Ledger slipped to fourth, despite skiing his fastest lap of the race, 26:14, in 1:47:20. Wilson finished with his slowest lap, but held on to fifth place in 1:54:34 to win the series.
