I am writing to encourage Durango residents to vote for Harrison Wendt on April 4. I know Harrison well and respect his drive, his impeccable integrity and, most of all, his honesty and passion in addressing the tough issues we face.
Harrison doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind on issues under the guise of political correctness – he addresses them head on and works hard to find solutions. On affordable housing, one of Durango’s hardest challenges, he seeks out solutions from all corners to create a housing mixture that serves all communities and income levels. He is a fierce advocate for Black, Indigenous and people of color, and the LGBTQ community members. He pushes back hard at bigoted attacks that have no place in modern society.
As a career conservation advocate, I also appreciate Harrison’s commitment to wise public land management and to Durango contributing its fair share toward reducing climate change effects. Reducing our carbon footprint and making renewable energy more accessible are critical steps, and he will work hard to achieve them.
Perhaps most of all, in these days of hyper partisanship and entrenched power structures, we need younger voices that bring a fresh perspective to the issues we confront, and bring the drive and new ideas to solve them. Harrison Wendt is that person, and I strongly urge your support.
