It’s Sunday morning, I’m making breakfast, and I start hearing gunshots. It reminds me of living in Los Angeles, hearing Uzis going off in the flood control behind my home. Terrifying.
But no, I live in the most beautiful place on earth in the Animas Valley. Neighbors in all directions, horses in all of our pastures, all dog owners.
My neighbor two doors north is out shooting: prairie dogs, coyotes, anything his bullet might hit. Our horses all are running out of fear. We all are afraid to go outdoors or let our pets out.
I call the Sheriff’s Department, they drive by, but I am told their hands are tied. Something has gone very wrong when one individual can take away a neighborhood’s quality of life in Durango. I know this is a hot political subject, but we need a logical adult to step up and defend the peace-loving members of this community.
