Neighbors in Need Alliance to host presentation about homeless encampments March 9

Neighbors in Need Alliance will host a public presentation by Nicole Martinez, executive director of the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at La Plata County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, 2500 Main Ave.

Martinez will share her experience in forming a city-sanctioned homeless camp called Camp Hope in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Camp Hope has been in existence since November 2011.

The presentation will discuss the formation and operations of the camp, city collaboration efforts and issues surrounding housing and homelessness.
