Durango has another coworking space to help people starting businesses and remote workers, and it will have plenty of support for business newbies looking for experienced hands.
Fort Lewis College’s Center for Innovation, in the Main Mall at 835 Main Ave., has opened 30 desks for coworkers offering daily drop-in rates of $30 or a monthly membership for $350.
The coworking rates include access to two conference rooms, a private locker, Wi-Fi and a dedicated desk to work.
“When we discuss the regional economy, how to promote good jobs, we view coworking space as an important tool in attracting and retaining good jobs,” said Kiki Hooton, coordinator at the Center for Innovation.
Located at the Center for Innovation, the coworking space offers easy access to the business expertise at the Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, the Southwest Colorado Accelerator Program for Entrepreneurs and FLC’s School of Business Administration Hawk Tank Business Plan Competition.
“We’re are here for people who are thinking about starting a business, people who want to grow a business, people who have an existing business and need help and to assist people who are working remotely,” Hooton said.
Event space and private office space are also available for rent at the Center for Innovation.

To deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, desks are sanitized regularly and have been spaced for social distancing.
School of Business Administration Dean Steve Elias said, “Our goal is to provide a great space for people to come in and launch a business and be entrepreneurial, a great place to meet other like-minded people in the community.”
