The Ignacio Bobcats open their 2014 home season in style tonight, on a new artificial surface.
A ribbon cutting is set for 6 p.m., and the public is invited. They'll even be allowed to go out on the field, according to IHS Activites Director Rocky Cundiff.
To protect the new surfaces, no coffee, sunflower seeds, sodas or gum are allowed around the new field or track.
Cundiff said parking will be tight as construction renoviations continued on the nearby IHS building. Students are currently attending classes in the old Ignacio Elementary building.
Visitors are asked to park on the streets near the school and walk in. Rides will be offered around the stadium for those who need some help getting there.
Kickoff against Paonia is set for 7 p.m., followed by a home game against Pagosa Springs next Friday.
The Ignacio volleycats play tomorrow in Ouray, then return for their home season start on Thursday against Mancos, followed by Ridgway at IHS on Saturday, Sept. 13.
