The first flight from LAX arrived about 2 p.m. to a water salute, courtesy of two engines from the airport’s Fire Department. The airport rolled out the red carpet for the first passengers and also provided a Hollywood backdrop for those who wished to commemorate the historic moment with photos, airport director Kip Turner said.
The weekly flights will take place Saturday afternoons on American Eagle and are seasonal – set to expire at the end of August, he said.
“They’ll take a look at the flights then and make some decisions about what they’ll do next,” Turner said.
