New Mexico Lobos gun down rival New Mexico State Aggies late

Bragg free throws the difference

The University of New Mexico improved to 5-1 with a road win Thursday at rival New Mexico State (2-3).

It was two free throws from Carlton Bragg with 49.9 seconds to go that gave the Lobos a 78-77 lead they would hold onto in a frantic final minute in which the teams exchanged turnovers that led to numerous video reviews. Bragg finished with 14 points and six rebounds. It was guard JaQuan Lyle who led the Lobos in scoring with 24 points.

The Aggies were led by guard Trevelin Queen, who scored 23 points and added nine rebounds and four assists. Jabari Rice finished with 13 points, and Ivan Aurrecoechea had 12 points and six rebounds.

The Lobos are in the midst of a big stretch and rebounded nicely from a 66-63 loss at UTEP on Tuesday.

Next, the Lobos will host No. 19 Auburn (5-0) at 7:30 p.m. Monday as well as Montana at 1 p.m. Dec. 1. Conference play for the Lobos will begin Dec. 4 at home against Boise State.

UNM and New Mexico State will rematch at 5 p.m. Dec. 14 in Albuquerque.

The Aggies will face Colorado State at 9 a.m. Monday in Las Cruces.
