SANTA FE – New Mexico health officials on Sunday reported 269 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and four additional deaths.
That increased to the state’s totals to 32,983 cases and 911 known deaths.
On Saturday, state officials reported 486 additional COVID-19 cases – two short of the 488 reported Friday – and five additional deaths.
The counties with the most additional cases reported Sunday were Bernalillo with 100 and Dona Ana with 40.
Bernalillo County includes Albuquerque, the state’s most populous city.
Most out-of-state travelers are required to self-quarantine upon arrival in New Mexico with exceptions for people arriving from six northeastern states, California and Washington.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.
But for some – especially older adults and people with existing health problems – it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. The vast majority of people recover.
