New Mexico reports 288 additional COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths

SANTA FE – New Mexico on Saturday reported 288 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths, increasing the state’s pandemic totals to 186,742 cases and 3,796 deaths.

About a quarter of the additional cases were reported in Bernalillo County, which includes metro Albuquerque.

Counties with double-digit numbers of additional cases included Lea (54), Doña Ana (33), Eddy (10), Otero (18) Sandoval (21), San Juan (13), Santa Fe (12) and Valencia (16).

Of the 10 deaths, four were from Bernalillo County; Doña Ana and Otero counties had two each; and Rio Arriba and Socorro counties had one each.

Most of the dead were at least 60 years old, but one woman was in her 20s and one man was in his 30s.

The number of infections is thought to be far higher than reported because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected with the virus without feeling sick.
